Not as long as there is load on it and you can milk it tight with your hand.  Otherwise, it would be a good idea.

They are on Kitetek, so no photos.  Pretty simple, though.  Take a piece of braided line the same diameter as what you are jamming. Maybe a piece of the cober of the line to be jammed.   Cut off a 600mm long piece.  Make a hole 100mm from each end and thread the line to be jammed through it.  Tie the 100mm tail on the jammer that is furthest from the load on the line (ie closest to the operator) to something solid and milk the jammer  over the jammed..  Ease the load from the winch or whatever is holding it and the jammer will constrict.  Pull on the other tail and it will release.  Use a non slippery rope for the jammer.  We use spectra kite strings for the kite lines, kevlar for the bigger stuff.
