| I think there are downsides that haven't been brought up. For example the cabin sole being the hull bottom is normally going to be narrower than it would be if raised a bit.... Case in point the boat that I was originally looking at, Kohler's KD 860 is flat bottom, but the sole is raised per the image below:
While your point is trivially true, would we not all prefer lighter faster, cheaper, and quicker to build? Its nit like one cannot make the hull wider if the extra width is more critical than optimum hull ship.
Have you any idea why the KD has two bottoms?
I cannot see a reason to add a second floor to raise the floor, can you? One wants low weight, cheaper, lighter hull, etc., right?
To my ignorant eyes, it seems putting the materials of two floors into one floor is stronger, lower, lighter and cheaper than two floors.
