Rob,
That's The One!
I can't get over it. I was actually working on an email where I was proposing to write a check, not for plans, but as part of a request to create almost this exact boat -- a way of putting my money where my mouth is instead of just asking nicely.
This is amazing.
Everything is there. An indoor place to eat and hang out for up to six people, two double bunks (hey, we don't hang out /and/ sleep at the same time), room for a galley, composting toilet, and shower, plenty of deck/tramp space, folding for a marina, folding down to 10' for wide-load trailering to launch and haul each spring and fall, a bimini for a breeze inside, beautiful lines, and a Bruce number just under 2 that doesn't need to be reefed until after there are whitecaps.
It even has the option of containerization, as well as the ability to fit it into our 40' long boat shop each winter. It's the dream boat.
Now I almost don't even want to finish construction on our new the house...
The wish list:
- A well for a 25 hp outboard in the leeward hull, to be later replaced with a Torqeedo or other setup once technology and budget allow.
- Tillers! Preferably traditional tillers mounted on the beams with a fixed linkage to rudder-mounted tillers, or perhaps just rudder tillers like bucket list with carbon fiber extensions the all the way to the cockpit. Either should allow for a tiller-based autopilot with an internal control head. I've had great luck for the past ten years with the ST-4000 and wireless remote, and am looking forward to upgrading to the EV-100 (http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?id=2305382). It's about as simple as it gets.
- Another 50 sf of sail area for a proper 2.0+ Bruce number. It's a bit silly to go for an artificial number there, but I just spent a long afternoon last week sailing back to the harbor in four knots of wind. That had me dreaming of something with a few more knots of boat speed with a lot less effort than gybing the catamaran as I tacked downwind.
That said, there's almost no point in making the wish list because all the items are simple to do when building the boat -- none require any changes to the structure. Even the interior steering mentioned in other posts could easily be retrofitted (it's not my thing, but I understand the need).
Congratulations to you and Steinar for a superb design. Very nicely done.
- Mike
