You can get diesel outboards, but perhaps its better to have the same fuel as your gen-set if you have one, then its only one type of fuel to carry, and no accidents when crew top the tanks off. If you were really game, you could adapt an electric motor to an outboard leg and run off the gen-set. You would need a large generator though, or incorporate a battery supply. "


Yes, yes, yes, I like the way you think.

I have been investigating those approaches and they all have their engineering challenges.

I don't know how to do it, but I kind of like the idea of a diesel engine in the middle of the leeward hull with a sail drive prop that folds both directions or just feathers both ways.  Then it is just reverse and forward with the engine......

I need to do some research.
