Why not?

1) if the rudders are large enough, it is unnecessary for preventing leeway,
2) It is added weight and cost.
3) It is a hole in the highest loaded part of the boat.
4) It is impossible to reach with the mast in.
5) If the board is raised, you can't shunt.
6) Most important, when you hit something, you bust the board, the case or the boat.

It is a long time since I played with fixed leeway preventers and the development of the rig, hulls, rudders and sailing techniques have improved a lot since then.  Therefore, I encourage anyone who can convince themselves that a daggerboard is worth the above to give it a go and let us know how it works.

Add a daggerboard? This is, of course, hardly an innovative or radical suggestion. There's no accommodation in the lee hull to interfere with, so why not? Put it right next to the mast, and the rudder down can serve to balance the system for the given shunt.
