What is the best sort of boom for a telescoping wingmast?
The wishbone seems attractive, but as I understand requires a topping lift to keep it out of the water. It seems to me a topping lift on a telescoping mast would be impractical when reefing - or at least very fiddly with high probability of dropping the boom in the water with amusing results (if lucky).
The only alterhative I can think of that allows mast rotation out of line with the boom (and hence optimized foil shape) is a straight boom with large bearings.
What am I missing?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards
Herb
