We sort of do that already. We strip plank all the
compound curves and use a core for all flat surfaces such as bulkheads floors
etc. When designing boats to be strip planked, as the Harryproa series are,
I usually make them all compounds so it all gets stripped. If flat panels are
called for in the hull then I'd reduce some surfaces to simple curves or mild
compounds where the panels can be slightly tortured. You can use a combination
of stripped and panel though you may have to increase the glass laminate to suit
the material. You may also have to use a triax for some longitudinal stiffness
which the Paulownia grain would normally takes care of. We are soon to
experiment with a flat panel technique for hull building using Polycore. The
leeward hull should lend itself well to this technique as there is no rocker,
though I will need to play with the lines a bit.

Bearings
Ok another dumb question, if you milled your cedar/paulonia
to the
same thickness as the polycore stuff why not use poly for big
flat
bits and strip the curvy bits then glass the whole
shebang?
