G'day,

Sorry about that.  I see a rule, I see a challenge to get round it.  Could never be bothered doing so, but like the mental exercise.

Current state is a cedar or kiri core, epoxy and glass skins.  Box section carbon/glass beams, ballestron rig with box boom and rudders hung off the inboard side of the lee hull.

Options that we have tried and that we know work:  In hull rudders, schooner rig, alloy beams, foam hulls and open top boom

Options we are currently experimenting with:  drum rudders, wing masts, other methods of reefing, building the boat from flat panels built on a bench but only glassed on one side.

regards,

Rob

Now you're sounding like an America's cup designer. I think once you get get
involved in rules and ratings the boats suffer. Let's forget that silly
exercise and go back to trying to make the best sailboat we can.
Here's a question, I know harry is a work in progress but if I were to send
the money today what is the current state of harry? Which core material, which
rig etc.???

Or maybe we could get creative with the dimensions of the bow sprit so that it
was an extension of the bows but just clear of the water at rest.  8.5m
waterline at rest, 11.2m overall.

regards,

rob

For what it's worth most of the boats to the rule in NZ are cats, weighing
in
around 1200 kg and 48-52 m2 in sail, a lot staying short of the max beam. I
can see why the length restriction would be an issue, wonder if they'd
accept
the length of the ww hull only!

OOps, just found the next post.  Wow!  Definitely a catamaran rule, but
some
scope for a proa.  Near enough a Visionarry area rig on a slightly longer
  Elementarry!   When do we start?

  regards,

  Rob

    Thanks David for this information.
    Looks very conservative ;-)
If you do not take in account the differencd in wind conditions
betweeen NZ and Switzerland, and the difference between lake and open
    sea, naturally.

    To compare:
    M2 class:
    max length 8.5m
    beam unlimited
    Overall length 11.2m
    trapezes and wings allowed
    height above wl 16.6m
    no engine
    no headroom needed in hulls
    must be unsinkable
